The first modern dog show, from 28 to 29 June 1859 in Newcastle upon Tyne, was an additional attraction for the annual livestock exhibition. His country character was clear, since only setters and pointers were shown, sports competitions and prizes were weapons. It was a discreet beginning of what would have been, at the end of the century, an extremely popular hobby, with fashionable dogs among all classes of society, and which had enormous implications for dog breeding.
The first show that included non-sporting competitions was held in Birmingham later in 1859 and was so successful that a year later, the Dog Show Society in Birmingham organized the first National Dog Show, for which there were 267 entries, with 30 races, judged in 42 classes
